achievement for the year?

am feeling like such a loser.
was downstairs went my mum was showing my dad a family friend of theirs, whose daughter is now a rising fashion designer, appearing on the tv this morning. she's young, hot looking chick, and will probably have a bright and easy future.

it made me think..what have i achieved in my life this year?
being stuck here in malaysia, trapped at home and not having freedom to go out anywhere and as long as i want without having to give explanation...
trapped in a department and company that i just dont give a fuck anymore, being a victim of office politics...
each month earning less than what i need to pay my expenses..
til i have to live a life like a scrooge..

i was just cleaning my undies drawer and realised i havent bought new undies for years and the ones i have are all so old or torn or stretchy..and planning to go buy cheap undies coz i cant waste my money on La Senza or other expensive brands...it makes me feel so pathetic.

it sucks that to go holiday must wait for travel fairs and queue for hours to get cheap tickets or go online after midnite trying to book the free tickets by Air Asia...
i remembered having to queue for 12 hours at MAS travel fair in year 2005, just to get the cheap free and easy holiday package for my family and relatives...
why cant i live a life where, i can just call and book the ticket for a holiday next week? no need to book 3 or 6 mnths earlier just to save money?

how long do i have to live this kind of cheapo life?

New World Suites Hotel, Bintulu

I arrived in Bintulu on Wed 21st May 2008.
The airport was surprisingly new and modern. Am amazed! Didn't expect them to have a modern and new airport.

Then me and my colleagues took a cab to cab to our hotel - New World Suites Hotel Bintulu. The cab ride cost about RM15.

The New World Suites Hotel is located above the Parkcity Shopping Mall...and there's plenty of shops in the surrounding area, so its rather convenient place to stay.

The hotel main entrance is nothing flashy..just a glass door at the side of the mall.
The lobby had simple decoration, and the wood paneling added a chic touch.
We were welcomed with cold towel..certainly a nice touch. Check in was a breeze.

There were only 2 lifts, but it arrived quickly..very rare that we had to wait long time throughout our stay here.

The rooms were indeed a pleasant surprise..better than expected. It adopts a modern deco style, remind me of other hotels like the Grand Hyatt Jakarta and Traders Hotel KL.

The room comes with a comfortable king sized bed with fluffy pillows, flat screen tv, leather sofa, work table with really comfy chair, kettle, iron & board.

The bathroom is spacious with good lighting and superb shower heads.

It has certainly been a good stay here so far..the only bad thing is that I send my baju kurung to be dry-cleaned..All the sequins fell off ;(
But well.. the staff say they'll waive the charges for that.

Hopefully they'll honour their word when I check out next week.

MAS flight to Bintulu

Finally I get to go outstation work after being stuck in assignments in KL for 6 months.

Departed for Bintulu on Wed, 21st May.
Checking in at KLIA with MAS new check-in system was quite a hassle.
They have installed new self check in machines. It would be convenient for those travelers without luggage, but for those with luggage, its like 2 times work.

First, I had to go to the check-in machine, key-in my e-ticket no to get the hard copy ticket. Then I had to go to the check-in counter to check in my luggage.

Such a waste of time and no value for money, especially since the return ticket cost my company almost RM1200. If its Air Asia..ok la..kind of expected you have to do things yourself, but taking MAS, we would expect full service.
Some more walking past the check-in counters..I can see the staff just sitting and chatting with each other since not many ppl now checking in at the counter...such a waste of resources for a company that is trying to increase its profit.

Then in the airplane came another round of disappointment.
MAS in their effort to increase profit...customers are the ones who have to suffer.
I remember in the old days, flight to Sabah or Sarawak would mean yummy filling hot food.
Now..sadly..its only ...
half of a triple decker cold cucumber and potato masala sandwich + a small box of cold pasta salad with 2 chicken meatballs + 1 small container of drinking water + 5 pieces of grapes + 1 mini bitter chocolate bar.
so pathetic....! :(

If emirates airlines flies to Bintulu..that would have been my preferred choice. they are so much more value for money airline.

MAS is going down the drain ... it continues to disappoint again and again since last year.

Singapore trip Mar 30th -Apr 1st 2008

I just came back from a short trip to Singapore from Sunday - Tuesday.
My last visit there was in year 2003...at that time, the Suntec area did not even exist yet.

This visit was certainly different..I spent the first day there attending a health fair, Smart Investor Fair and Body Shop Clearance sale ...all at the Suntec Convention Ctr.
Truly opened up my eyes on the various biz opportunities.
Got loads of free sample/gifts..which makes the time spent even more worthwhile.

I had the priviledge to stay over at my friend's house (whom I first met at the Property Investment Seminar in KL last December). Learnt so much of new biz ideas from him..that on the last few minutes at the Changi Airport..my head was almost bursting with info overload.
I was so motivated to achieve the freedom away from full-time work as him...how I envy to see him still lazing around in bed at 10am on a Monday morning..and be back home in bed at 5pm on Tuesday evening...
My life will never be like that la if I stay in KL.

anyway...will be uploading some pics soon.

tips when taking bus

I just came back from johor. decided to take bus instead of drive..

However, this may be the last time i will do so in a long time.
Puduraya sucks as usual..too much pollution..such a disgrace to the country.
Thank God for the KFC across the street...providing solitude and cold blast of air-con..
Took Causeway Link bus from KL to JB..good bus, looks new with large PVC/leather seat.
RM23.90 for 3-seater bus..
Reached JB in 4 hrs, the bus only stopped once for 5mins along the highway for toilet break very efficient..highly recommended.

Arrived at Larkin bus station..arrrghhh..hot and noisy and harrowing experience..stupid con mens..ended up paying rm40 for my bus tix from jb-shah alam instead of rm23.90 for a seat in SuperNice 3-seater bus..

Lessons learnt when taking interstate bus:

- at bus station, when walking around buying tickets, if people ask where you are going..just ignore. they are friendly only coz they wanna get ur money.
only speak to the sullen looking people sitting behind the counter..if not u'll end up having to pay higher ticket price [which include the con-mens referral fee]
- when buying bus ticket, apart from the usual e.g. price, bus departure time and arrival location, don't forget to ask what time the bus scheduled to arrive at destination, where will the bus stop for breaks, no of seats in the bus, will the bus stop at other locations to pick / drop off passenger, etc.

Sudan

Am still in Khartoum, Sudan.

Been here since Nov13th...will be back in Malaysia by mid Dec.

Staying at Grand Holiday Villa Khartoum..which unfortunately is not that grand after all.

Will put up some photos of the hotel soon.

Tired of this place already. cant wait to be back to malaysia. Its like Malaysia in the 1950's here..sand everywhere...

But on the other hand..I can see alot of growth potential. Many things are not here..no shopping malls. There's only one big supermarket called Afra..the building similar to Giant or Carrefour in Malaysia, with several retail outlets in the building. Amazingly Giordano has an outlet here.

Been visiting a lot of depots here for the audit..Thankfully the office area is clean though old building.

Anyway..will post some pics soon once I transfer it from my digital camera.
